I got with the Webbys to get the word out about its first ever hackathon, 5G for Change. The Webbys invited teams to submit their world-changing ideas based on Verizon’s powerful 5G network. The brief was at once simple and boundless: what do you want to fix and how can 5G help? Over 150 creative teams submitted proposals, with five finalists vying for a Webby Award and $50,000. In the end, Team FramePerfect took the prize with their proposal to combat illegal logging in Guyana’s forests using 5G and its latency to deploy surveillance drones that tip off rangers on the ground.
